Introduction:According to Charles VanDoren, "An ideal Encyclopaedia should be radical and should stop being safe." Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia that provides its users free access to all human knowledge put together. Wikipedia acts as a source that provides a brief description or summary of well-established, published materials. Wikipedia does not mandate subject experts to contribute articles to the site or endorse it. Many researchers and academicians have opined that as Wikipedia is not a place for original research, the articles submitted at Wikipedia cannot be considered to be froman authentic source.

Launched in 2001, Wikipedia is celebrating the publication of its 'One Millionth' article as of 2005. Wikipedia in its four years of existence has spent only £300,000. In comparison, in 2005, when The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography published its new edition, it had spent £25 million and 12 years on the same. As of 2005, Wikipedia has 250 million words of compilation, its English site has some 500,000 entries and continues to receive articles every day.
